From the recording Across a Carnival
Inspired by Chris’s childhood home beside an old cemetery, this psychedelic Americana dreamscape imagines the dead wandering into a carnival deep in the woods, where memory, longing, joy and loss mingle beneath the lights.
Lyrics
I’ve counted all the stones
In the graveyard by my home
But I never visit there
I watch the hour hand
In the clock on my night stand
Why do I even care?
Do you feel the sun going down?
Sometimes I’ll see you smile
Here and there once in a while
Hazel eyes the only thing
Two of them travel far
Have a song, “Falling Star”
Hear the words, hear them sing
On a hill, in the fall
I came across a carnival
Ferris wheel, carousel
In a dream, wide awake
A tattooed girl with a snake
Is it real? Hard to tell
Old pictures on the wall
Friends are here but not at all
Take them down, put away
Lying there all alone
Buttons, cloth, dust and bone
There they are, there they stay
